CSC 599: Senior Capstone
Spring 2013
Project Guidelines
Project Requirements
The project must integrate content from the computer science curriculum. For example, developing a mobile application that connects to a customer database would integrate concepts from Data Structures, Web Programming, and Databases.
Each student will complete a 10-page (minimum) project report that provides background information, design goals, and a detailed description of the project. A draft of that report must be submitted for feedback and the appropriate revisions made in the final report. In the last week of the course, students will present their projects to the class. The major milestones in the project are listed on the course syllabus.
Project Rubric
The following rubric will be used for both the draft and final report:
A level
- demonstrates a mastery of class concepts
- provides a clear and understandable description of the project
- has carefully organized and constructed paragraphs that use concise sentences
- has few errors (none serious) in grammar, spelling, or punctuation
- uses correct bibliographic and citation styles consistently
B level
- demonstrates an understanding of class concepts
- provides an understandable description of the project
- has carefully organized and constructed paragraphs
- has few serious errors in grammar, spelling, or punctuation
- uses correct bibliographic and citation styles consistently
C level
- demonstrates some understanding of class concepts
- provides a partly understandable description of the project
- is reasonably organized, but lacks continuity in places
- has numerous serious errors in grammar, spelling, or punctuation
- inconsistent bibliographic and citation styles
D level
- demonstrates a superficial understanding of class concepts
- provides a largely unclear description of the project
- is seriously lacking in organization and continuity
- demonstrates a pattern of serious errors in grammar, spelling, or punctuation
- has missing references and citations
At the end of the course, each student will give a 20- to 25-minute oral presentation on his or her project. This presentation will be graded on its organization, its clarity in describing the project, and the student's effectiveness as a presenter (e.g., clear speaking voice, eye contact).
